Krishna Gardens Residents’
Association (KGRA) was formed in 2007 with 150 families and later
the area covered by the Association increased to accommodate another
100 families. As per th data of October 2023, the Association serves
252 families distributed in A, B and C sectors, living between the
temple lane south of the Nambickal Krishna Temple and north of Doctor
Pinto avenue. The western boundary is the Sreekariam Akkulam road
from Southern Air Command Officers Mess to Nambical Krishna Temple.
The Eastern boundary is temple road up to Ithady Residents Association
boundary. The geographical area of tha Assocoation falls within the
Aakkulam Division Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
In 2007, the condition of the
roads were very pathetic, drinking water supply was scarce and street
lighting was very much insufficient with very low voltage. The formation
of an association of the residents as forum to raise our demands to
the authorities was inevitable. A meeting of the Residents unanimously
approved the formation of a registered Residents’ Association and
named it ‘Krishna Gardens Residents’ Association’.
An ad-hoc Committee initially
formed, listed the major grievances and started action. The results
were very encouraging and many of the problems caught the attention
of the authorities. The duly elected Executive Committees since then
continued the good work. With in a short span of three years the Association
could achieve many targets that improved the overall development of
the region. A directory of all the families was published; proficiency
awards and merit certificates were given to eligible students, study
materials were supplied to poor students, became part of the Community
Policing Scheme of the government to maintain law and order in the
region and many more grievances of the residents were redressed.
Distribution of identity cards
to all families and the launching of the website for the Association
in March/April 2010 are two major steps accomplished by the Association.
KGRA is a member CORAS (Coordination of Residents' Associaations of
Sreekariam) since its inception. With the coordinated efforts of all
Residents' Associations, the region witnessed tremendous changes.
In 2012, families living on
the eastern side of Paper Mill and Ithady roads were included to make
a 'C' Sector of the Association. A total of around 206 families are
members of the Association now. The Association continued its good
works and tried to solve many of the common problems faced by the
families. Now the region is having very good power and water supply
system. The law and order situation is far better and the condition
of the roads improved a lot.
The family Directory was thoroughly
revised and the new Directory with details of all families in the
three Sectors was published in September 2017 by the Hon'ble Minister
of Kerala, Sri. Kadakampally Surendran.
The General Body meeting held
in December 2017 elected the new Executive Committee and has decided
to revamp the Association's Website. This is the revamped website
launched in January 2018.
